8 September – How will the Government handle the Cost of Living Crisis?

It has been confirmed that Liz Truss will cap the average energy bill at £2,500 annually until 2024, in a support plan that could cost up to £150bn.

This will come into effect from the 1 October 2022.

Some are concerned this support may not be enough to keep people at risk of homelessness safely indoors, especially as the winter approaches.

Many rumoured plans for how Liz Truss plans to handle the cost of living crisis are being discussed. Most likely is a support package for bills to be frozen at about £2,500 a year until 2024, costing a total of £150bn. This will be talked over with MPs soon.

5 September – Liz Truss will be our new Prime Minister

So far, Liz Truss and her Government have announced no concrete plans as to how they plan to tackle this crisis. This includes new housing minster Simon Clarke. We’ll keep you updated as more cost of living news comes in.

28 August – 1.7 million people could become homeless as a result of the Cost of Living Crisis

According to Crisis, nearly two million people could be forced into homelessness as rent and energy bills become untenable. This is likely to impact low income families most as their bills rise by an average of 133% over the next few months. This is starting to show through our work as 89% more people have visited our centre for support since March.
